We had our first week of preschool for N, A, M, E, and S and we had a great one! I thought I'd share it with you!
We started off with some brand-new squishy Playdough in our month's colors: red, blue, and yellow. We squished it flat and stamped with our ABCs and 123s. S especially loved making all her numbers!
After my good helpers put away their Playdough, we went to Circle time to learn about germs. We ripped up red, blue, and yellow paper into the tiniest bits we could, but they were still bigger than germs! And the paper fell right off our hands - germs don't do that! So we made some green sticky germs (from neon Duct tape) and had fun "sneezing" them at each other.
Good thing we all got well again soon because the next thing we did was to make our own germs! We used our ripped up paper and "real glue", you know, the sticky white kind. And we practiced taking turns and only using a little bit, because we only had one bottle to <strike>police</strike> share. E and S both said their germs could get into our bodies and kill us, yikes!
Sitting for a long time, even with cool things like "real glue" and deadly germs, makes a kid get the wiggles, so we had to take a break and do a wiggle song or two. Have you heard of Joe Scruggs? (He's like a Rafi.) We love his songs at our house. And so we danced to a few.
After cleanup, we had our snack. We had peanut butter on crackers and yellow watermelon. All the kids got to help pass things out and make their own, each with their own blobs of peanut butter to spread with their own knives. We were all proud of N, who tried this new suspicious yellow watermelon, and he declared that he liked it!
My helpers cleaned up snack and afterwards got a little quiet building block time. Watching each other build gave everyone great ideas to try themselves, and even though I was head-hunted as a building contractor, they all made their own special creations and were very proud for doing so!
After we cleaned up the blocks, sorting them into their colored or non-colored baskets, we started learning about our monthly theme, Weather! I chose just clouds and wind for this day. We took a little trip to the back patio to observe the weather, paying special attention to the color of the sky, if there were any clouds, if we could see the sun and if there was a breeze blowing the tree leaves. Then we came back to our table and drew a picture of the weather we had observed. S drew a great tree, E filled in all her sky, and A loved his sun.

We were going to fold up these pictures into paper fans, but M and her mom had made us all folders to bring things home in and I knew N's mom would love to see his picture much more than a fan, so got out some more paper and folded that instead. We needed fans to do our What can the wind move? experiment! I would put out light or heavy objects and they would guess if they thought their breeze could move them. All the kids stood on one side of the table and waved as hard as they could at the objects. It was a hit!
After that we laced around our own lacing clouds, added a few crepe paper streamers and had our own cloud windsocks!
Then, what-do-you-know, it was lunch time!
